People reminded to participate in Census
TRC reminds everyone it is important to complete the 2010 Census form and return it.
The Census is conducted every 10 years in an effort to count how many people live in the United States. Information from the Census helps determine locations for child-care and senior centers, new roads, hospitals, schools, and community centers.
Having an accurate count for our community is crucial — during the 2000 Census, the City of Jamestown was undercounted by 254 people. The mistake was corrected, and that small difference ended up meaning Jamestown received an additional $2.5 million in federal aid during the next 10 years.
Census forms were mailed out in mid-March and are due back by mid-April. The form takes about 10 minutes to complete, and information provided cannot be shared with anyone else nor with any governmental agency.
