Coffee shop exhibits works
created by TRC’s artists

Artwork created by individuals with cognitive disabilities is on display at the Ryder’s Cup coffee shop through the end of April. Photo is of Stacy Langheinrich.

The works were created by people who participate in The Resource Center’s Day Habilitation programs, which support individuals with developmental disabilities in becoming more independent.  The Ryder’s Cup exhibit was arranged through the efforts of Kristen Briggs, TRC’s art teacher.  Ms. Briggs, who has been teaching art at The Resource Center for more than three years, has arranged a number of public exhibits of her students’ work so that the community at large can experience the artistic talents of people with disabilities.

Most recently, the Chautauqua-Lake Erie Wine Trail and the Chautauqua Lake Erie Art Trail created opportunities for TRC artists and their paintings to be featured in events associated with a Wine Trail/Art Trail event in March, thus introducing other regional artists to TRC and its artists.

Artists whose works are being featured in the Ryder’s Cup exhibit include Mary Frohnapple, Stacy Langheinrich, Taynisha Lynch, Glenn Miller, John Shoop, Neil Swanson, Tammie Tatchell, Rose Valvo, Michael Wicks, and Judy Wilkins.

Ryder’s Cup is located at 305 East Fairmount Avenue (Route 394) in Lakewood.  The coffee shop is open from 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and 8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Sundays.

Greeting cards, bearing images derived from the disabled artists’ paintings, will be for sale during the exhibit.  All proceeds from the sale of the cards will go toward TRC’s art program.
