On a crisp, autumn morning before sunrise, several volunteers from The Resource Center met at the loading dock of The Post-Journal in Jamestown, looking to make a difference in their community. In fact, since 1959, TRC has been dedicated to improving the lives of those in the county with disabilities and their families.
One way to do that is through community partnerships, which is why for the third year in a row, TRC teamed up with The P-J to create and sell a special $1 edition of the newspaper. It’s all part of Make A Difference Day, an annual nationwide celebration of neighbors helping neighbors.
The special edition focused on TRC in the following areas: Transportation, Autism, Mental Health, and Health Services. As part of the wrap, there were advertisements and articles about TRC programs, events and services.

Several volunteers braved the cold and windy morning, standing outside various locations across the southern and middle part of the county to sell papers. Locations included the three local Tim Hortons, the Jamestown Savings Bank Ice Arena, the Farm Fresh Plaza on Third Street, Phil and Cindy’s Lunch, the 707 Plaza, The Kwik Fill/Red Apple Food Mart on Route 60 near the Interstate 86 interchange, and a few street corners in downtown Jamestown. In Mayville, papers were sold at Dick’s Harbor House, the Gerace Office Building and the Hall Clothier Building. Papers also were sold in various TRC facilities.
More than $1,100 was raised. Proceeds from the sale will benefit TRC.
